Make This City Ours – Jazz Journal International

This lady simply gets better; considering that she was pretty damn good when she first appeared on the recording scene that adds up to a lot. There is a wonderful sense of maturity both in the sound of her voice and the interpretation she brings to her songs. The repertoire is excellent, blending new and old with ease, light-hearted and serious without being either flippant or portentous. The accompaniment, Anglo-American as it is on this New York date, is very good indeed with nice solo spots from horns and piano. Most readers will, by now, have heard Martin either on record or live and need have no second thoughts about adding this to their collection. those of you who have yet to hear her have a treat in store. Excellent sound. Recommended.

Make This City Ours – The Observer

On Make This City Ours Martin’s warm sensuous voice switches comfortably between a very mixed bag of styles, from husky Latin Make This City Ours Tonight, to the torch lighting Another Night and bluesy Tom Waits humour of Collagen Lips. The album has a vitality essential to jazz, thanks in no small part to an immaculate backing band who sound as though they had as good a time as Martin making this fine album.

Four Four Time 2012 The long-running partnership of one of the foremost jazz singers of her generation and the legendary classical and screen composer has played to packed houses and rave reviews in New York, London and elsewhere since 2000. Claire and Richard both share a great love of the American composer and lyricist Irving Berlin, widely considered to be one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Berlin wrote hundreds of songs, many becoming major hits, which made him a legend before he turned thirty. This brand new show, with classy arrangements by Richard, will include such classics as Let’s Face The Music And Dance, How Deep Is The Ocean, What’ll I Do?, Cheek To Cheek and Let Yourself Go, all delivered with the style and panache that you would expect from these two great friends and world-class artists. ‘Style does not go out of style’……
